Government

The Superior governmental entity is highly regarded in that this is one township government that not only allows citizen involvement, but avidly promotes it. The Superior city governing process revolves around local citizens that wholeheartedly volunteer their time to further their township. This unique government is literally the long term goal concept for other Michigan townships and charter cities.

History

The region of real estate known as Superior was officially established in the early 1800's. It was largely untapped countryside, other than use as a travel route for Michigan area Native Americans.  One interesting fact about Superior is that it was on the route traveled by the French explorer La Salle in the late 1600's. Eventually Superior's location in relevance to the Great Lakes led it to become a major trading post.  As the generations passed, settlers from Canada, New England, New York, Germany, and Ireland, to name a few, began to flow into the area. Today, the long-term citizens of Superior have a very deep diversity in their ancestry.

Community Information

One of the main aspects that Superior, as well as all of Washtenaw County, is famed for is the abundance of local scenic parks. This lovely area boasts ten parks total, each with their own particular slant that makes them popular with citizens as well as visitors. For those with children, one of these parks actually has a self-contained water park within it. Another popular activity area is the local recreation center which offers an abundance of activities, such as basketball courts, a weight room and more. There are also a large number of golf courses within reasonable driving distance of Superior.

For those who prefer the natural outdoor settings, Superior is home to two lakes, Murray Lake and Frain Lake, both of which are excellent sources for water sports. There are also a few streams and rivers that cut through the region.

Real Estate

Despite the fact that Superior is somewhat smaller than neighboring communities, it still boasts a fairly decent amount of real estate. The setting is largely rural in nature with an abundance of outdoor beauty to be taken advantage of. The local Superior government has been, for some time, gathering local wooded area to utilize as wildlife refuges, opening even more potential for scenic  and majestic views in the near future.
