Government

The township of Van Buren, Michigan is under the discretion of the same council that covers Wayne County in its' entirety. As such an interactive entity with the surrounding districts, the Van Buren, and Wayne County, government works closely alongside other local governing bodies to have a greater impact upon the communities in the Detroit region as a whole.

History

Though the region currently known as Van Buren came to exist in the early 1800's, it did not receive much notice until the year 1875 when the township hall was built. Today, the town hall still exists and houses the Belleville Museum. On the industrial and population end, the township of Belleville has had many sudden inexplicable growth spurts. Though the reasons are largely unknown, a few of the sudden growths were from evident sources, such as the railway in 1881 and the local airport, which turned out to be the second largest in the state of Michigan.

Community Information

Van Buren has many extremely popular high-profile attractions and events, but one of the most commonly experienced is that of Belleville Lake. Here locals spend endless days relaxing on the lakeshore, taking walks, fishing, boating, and even enjoying the surrounding golf courses. One must also take into account the proximity of Van Buren to the Detroit Area, where the attractions are virtually unlimited.
